The iPhone 17 series, launched in 2025, includes the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a new iPhone 17 Air, featuring significant advancements in design, performance, and camera technology.

Key Features and Design

The iPhone 17 features a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with ProMotion adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, providing smoother scrolling and gaming experiences. It boasts a brightest peak brightness of 3,000 nits outdoors and an Always-On display with Dynamic Island. The device uses Ceramic Shield 2 for enhanced screen durability and scratch resistance and has a color-infused glass back available in five colors: black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white. The phone has an aluminum body and weighs 177 grams.

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models feature a more robust build with an aluminum unibody with vapor chamber cooling built into it. They support the same screen size in the Pro (6.3-inch) and a larger 6.9-inch display in the Pro Max. Both Pro models have a peak brightness of 3,000 nits outdoor and enhanced 120Hz ProMotion OLED displays.

Performance

All iPhone 17 models, except the Pro variants, use the A19 chip built on a 3-nanometer process with 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU, including 8GB RAM. The Pro models are equipped with the improved and more powerful A19 Pro chip, delivering higher efficiency and performance gains, including advanced AI tasks and optimized thermal management. The A19 chip offers better graphics, system responsiveness, and machine learning capabilities.

An Apple-designed N1 networking chip enhances connectivity with support for 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread networking technology, and dual-frequency GPS. The iPhone 17 also supports eSIM technology in markets like the U.S., reducing the need for physical SIM cards.

Camera System

The iPhone 17 upgrades its camera system with a 48MP Fusion Main camera featuring a 2x optical-quality telephoto lens and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera. The Ultra Wide sensor now offers four times the resolution of previous models, enabling better macro and wide-angle shots. The new Center Stage front camera at 18MP brings cinematic framing features and supports dynamic tracking during video calls or selfies. The iPhone 17 Pro models go further with an advanced three-camera system (Main, Ultra Wide, and Telephoto) offering an 8x telephoto zoom, equivalent to eight different lenses, and pro-level video features such as ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and genlock for filmmakers.

Battery and Charging

The iPhone 17 battery life provides up to 30 hours of video playback or 27 hours of streaming, a significant improvement over the previous generation. It supports fast charging, achieving 50% charge in 20 minutes via a 40W power adapter, or 30 minutes with a MagSafe charger. Charging speeds are enhanced to 25W for wireless charging with both MagSafe and Qi2 standards. It also features an Adaptive Power mode in iOS 26 to intelligently manage battery consumption.

Software and Additional Features

The iPhone 17 runs iOS 26 with improvements such as AI-generated smart replies in iMessage, expanded lock screen customizations, and enhanced Face ID under low-light conditions. Safety features like Emergency SOS via satellite, Messages via satellite, and Crash Detection are included. The Pro models come with AI-powered native features taking advantage of the extra RAM and chip capabilities.

Pricing and Availability

The iPhone 17 was unveiled at Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event in California in September 2025, with pre-orders starting mid-September and availability soon after. Pricing in India for the base model starts at around ₹79,990, with the Pro models and Pro Max priced higher, reflecting premium build and features
